SCHENECTADY, NY - The Union College women's basketball team defeated the MCLA Trailblazers this evening, 52-32 at the Viniar Athletic Center.
Nicole Conley led the Dutchwomen and earned the team's first double-double of the year, with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Union lead for the majority of the first quarter, and held onto a 10-7 advantage with 1:30 to go in the first. With five seconds left in the quarter, Union committed a turnover and MCLA's Kylah Langston managed to make the steal and bank in the layup. Langston's basket brought MCLA within one of the Dutch, but that would remain the closest margin for the rest of the game.
The start of the second quarter was a tale of turnovers, but at the 5:33 mark
Jenni Barra slowed things down and drained a three pointer. With the three pointer, Union pulled away to a 17-10 lead.
Elly Vaughan notched in a jumper with a minute to go, followed by a buzzer-beating layup from Conley, and the Dutchwomen headed into the second half with a 23-16 cushion.
First-year
Corina Lindsay and Conley drained back-to-back baskets from behind the arc early in the second half, giving Union the 29-18 lead and their biggest lead of the game. The Dutchwomen would head into the fourth quarter with a 40-28 advantage and kept their foot on the gas pedal.
Lindsay made her third three-pointer of the night with just under four minutes to go in regulation, ultimately solidifying the win with MCLA facing a 20-point deficit.
Union led the Trailblazers for nearly 39 minutes and never once trailed MCLA.
The Dutchwomen advance to 4-4 on the year and return to Liberty League play this weekend against Ithaca and Skidmore.
