Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Harvard tops Union in final seconds of OT

CAMBRIDGE, MA – The Union College men's hockey team dropped a 4-3 decision with 5.1 seconds remaining in overtime on Saturday evening at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center.

Union (11-11-1, 7-3-0 ECAC) scored the first goal of the game and held a 2-1 lead with 13 minutes to play in the third period. It took 47 minutes to score the first three goals of the game, but three more goals would be scored within the span of 55 seconds during the ninth minute of the third period.

Harvard (7-6-1, 6-3-0 ECAC) scored its second goal of the game at the 8:01 mark of the third period to tie the game at 2-2. Anthony Rinaldi then scored his 11th goal of the season 31 seconds later to give the Dutchmen back the lead. Unfortunately, the Crimson scored 24 seconds later to tie the game back up.

As the game was winding down toward overtime, Harvard found itself on a two-on-one with just enough time for one last shot on net. Jake Kupsky didn't waiver and made the save right before the final horn to ensure Harvard wouldn't escape in regulation.

Unfortunately, Harvard got a similar chance in the final seconds of overtime, and this time the Crimson finished the play and claimed the win despite Union out-shooting Harvard 38-29.

Both teams scored one power-play goal in the contest, as Union went 1-for-4 on the man advantage, while Harvard scored on just one power play.

Union returns home to Mesa Rink next weekend, Jan. 12-13, hosting Clarkson and St. Lawrence. Both games will be played at 7 p.m. (ET).
