Dutchmen drop OT decision to Thoroughbreds

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Union College men's basketball team led at halftime, but a strong second half and overtime propelled Skidmore to a 94-83 win over the Dutchmen on Saturday night.

Greg King and Kevin Weckworth combined for 50 of Union's 83 points in the contest, as King went 8-for-18 on the floor for 26 points, while Weckworth was 6-for-14 from the field and 11-for-12 from the charity stripe for 24 points.

Despite the strong offense from the two seniors, no other Dutchman was able to break double digits, while the Thoroughbreds had six players in double digits, including a game-high 28 from Dakpe Yiljep.

Union came out and shot 44-percent in the first half, making five three pointers en route to a 39-33 lead at halftime.

Unfortunately, Skidmore got hot in the second half, shooting 61-percent from the floor to tie the game at 76-76 by the end of the second half.

In overtime, it was all Skidmore as the Thoroughbreds out-scored the Dutchmen 18-7 to win their fourth-straight Liberty League contest.

Union takes on SUNY Cobleskill on Monday, Jan. 8, in Cobleskill, NY, at 7 p.m. for their final nonconference game of the season.
