Penn State skates to 3-1 win over Dutchwomen

The Union College women's hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to Penn State on Friday afternoon at Messa Rink. The Dutchwomen drop to 1-4-0 on the season while the Nittany Lions improve to 2-2-1.
 
Penn State scored twice in the opening period, but Union battled back after the sluggish start. The Dutchwomen scored in the final minute of play thanks to an extra-attacker goal during the power play, but Penn State would score on the empty net afterward to secure the 3-1 win.

How It Happened
Penn State's Brooke Madsen scored at the 5:25 mark of the first period to get the Nittany Lions on the board. Natalie Heising then added a second tally for Penn State with less than four minutes remaining in the first period.
 
Despite being out-shot 12-4 in the first period. Union closed in the shot differential in the second period as PSU only held a 9-7 advantage.
 
Union finally found an answer to PSU's Jenna Brenneman in net with an extra-attacker goal while on the power play with 12 seconds remaining in the third period. Cheyenne Harris took a shot from the top of the right face-off circle, which bounced off traffic in front and into the back of the net for the junior's first goal of the season.
 
Penn State then scored on the open Union net in the final seconds to secure the 3-1 win.
