SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Union College junior forward
Haley Shugart scored her first goal of the season as Lindenwood defeated the Dutchwomen in their home opener, 4-1, Friday night from Messa Rink.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions took the lead less than three minutes into the opening period on a goal by Cierra Paisley. Union responded three minutes later when Shugart scored off assists from Rachel de Perio and senior defensemen Arianna Kosakowski to tie the score at 1-1.
- Taylor Girard tallied a goal with 8:18 left in the opening period to give Lindenwood a 2-1 edge heading into the first intermission.
- After 12 scoreless minutes to open the second period, the Lions gained a two-goal cushion when Sierra Burt scored from the crease to give Lindenwood a 3-1 lead going into the final frame.
- The Lions put the Dutchwomen away with seven minutes remaining in the final period when Burt netted her second goal of the match.
- Junior goaltender Coco Francis finished the game with 20 saves in net for the Dutchwomen, bringing her save total to 53 for the season.

Union returns to action Saturday, Oct. 6, hosting Lindenwood in the second day of back-to-back games against the Lions at 3:00 p.m. (ET).
