SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Bouncing back from two losses, the No. 17 Union College men's hockey team completed the weekend sweep with a 3-2 win over visiting Clarkson on Saturday night at Messa Rink.

The Dutchmen improve to 6-2-1 on the season with a 2-2-0 mark in ECAC Hockey play. Clarkson now sits with a 1-1-0 record in conference action, having won their previous night's game against Rensselaer.

Union used two power-play goals in the second period to take a 2-1 lead, while the first collegiate goal by Michael Ryan proved to be the game winner in the third period. The Dutchmen out-shot the Golden Knights, 29-17, in the contest, while only conceding one even strength goal to Clarkson.

Summary
  • Brett Supinski and Sebastian Vidmar both had two-point nights, marking four points each for the two seniors over the weekend.
  • Brandon Estes picked up an assist on Supinski's goal, earning his second point of the weekend.
  • Michael Ryan scored his first collegiate goal, and Zacahary Emelifeonwu recorded an assist on the play, marking his first point of the season.
  • Jake Kupsky made 15 saves in net, conceding just one even strength goal over the weekend.
  • Union won 62-percent of the faceoffs against Clarkson.
  • Union went 2-for-7 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the PK.
Statistical Comparison

How It Happened
Clarkson got on the scoreboard first, scoring a fluky goal from a pass during a power play that pinballed off two players before going into the net.

Union responded in the second period, scoring two power play goals, one on five-on-four advantage and one on a five-on-three advantage, to take a 2-1 lead. The first goal was scored by Ryan Walker who banged home a rebound while camped out in front of the Clarkson net. Brett Supinski scored the second, taking a shot through traffic that hit off a Clarkson defender before redirecting past Clarkson's netminder Jake Kielly for the senior's third goal of the season.

The Golden Knights scored first in the third period, netting the only even strength goal Union conceded all weekend at the 3:18 mark. The tie game wouldn't last long, however. With the help from Brendan Taylor, Michael Ryan was able to create a turnover at the Union blue line and advance up the ice on a two-on-one with Zachary Emelifeonwu. After some passing, Ryan took a low shot, looking for a rebound opportunity, but ended up beating Kielly five hole for his first collegiate goal, and the game winner.

The win ended a two-game losing streak to the Golden Knights, as Union hadn't defeated Clarkson since Jan. 27, 2017.

Up Next for the Dutchmen
Union continues ECAC Hockey play on the road next weekend, Nov. 9-10, taking on Princeton and Quinnipiac. Both games are set to begin at 7 p.m. (ET).
