ROCHESTER, NY – With a 79-70 road win over RIT on Friday night, the Union College men's basketball team secured a second-place finish in the Liberty League and a first-round bye in the league playoffs.

Kevin Weckworth made sure his team came out victorious, scoring 19 points in the first half to give the Dutchmen a 44-31 lead at the break. Weckworth would end up scoring a total of 31 points in the contest, marking the fourth time this season he has broken 30 points, three of which have happened in the past four games.

The Tigers got into foul trouble in both halves, committing 24 fouls in the contest, 12 each half, resulting in Union scoring 26 points from the charity stripe.

Despite the 13-point lead Union held at halftime, RIT came out in the second half and rallied to cut its deficit to 46-41 in the early minutes. The Tigers would outscore Union, 39-35, in the second half, but the Dutchmen would never let the Tigers get closer than that five-point mark.

In addition to its 26 points from the free-throw line, Union received 21 points from its bench, led by senior
Garrett Johnson who had 14 points coming off the bench for the Dutchmen.

Union finishes the regular season tomorrow at Hobart. Tip off against the Statesmen is slated for 4 p.m. (ET). Union will then return to Hobart for the semifinals of the Liberty League tournament on Saturday, Feb 24.
