Box Score SCHENECTADY, NY - After early trouble on the power play, the Dutchwomen were unable to bounce back from a dominant Cornell team, and ultimately fell 5-0 to the No. 5 team in the country.
The first period was a tale of five penalties between the ECAC foes. Things looked bright early in the first period, as Union earned a power play at the 13-minute mark. However, not long into the advantage, a defensive turnover led to a Cornell breakaway goal.
The Dutchwomen found themselves on another power play five minutes later, this time with a 5-on-3 advantage. Cornell killed one of those penalties, but then managed to score shorthanded, again, after a mishandled puck in front of Union's own. The Big Red struck again with five minutes to go and headed into the first period intermission with a gaping 3-0 advantage.Â
Despite the crazy first period, after 20 minutes of play, shots on goal were only 6-4 in favor of Cornell.
During the following two periods, the Big Red would tack on two more goals and runaway with a 5-0 shutout victory. Cornell out shot Union 25-18 after three periods of play.
The Dutchwomen will return to action tomorrow afternoon to conclude the 2017-18 season against Colgate. Following tomorrow's game, Union will honor Katie Laughlin, Caitlyn McLaren and Brandy Streeter as its three graduating seniors.Â
