SCHENECTADY, NY – The No. 19 Union College men's hockey team held a 1-0 advantage heading into the third period, but Colgate battled back to score in the final minute of regulation to force a 1-1 tie on Friday night at Messa Rink.

Despite the tie, Union clinches second place in ECAC Hockey and holds a 20-13-2 (15-5-1 ECACH) record heading into the final game of the regular season. Colgate remains in sixth place in the league with a record of 13-14-6 (9-9-3 ECACH).

It took 38 minutes to produce the game's first goal, as the first 20 minutes went by without a goal, nor a penalty. Union committed the first two penalties in the second period, but
Jake Kupsky came up big for Union in net to keep the game scoreless.

Then at the 18:16 mark of the second period, a fantastic individual effort by
Cole Maier resulted in linemate
Ryan Scarfo scoring the first goal to put Union up 1-0. Maier battled for a rebound to the left of the Colgate goal, after getting knocked down to his knees, Maier stayed focused on the puck and got a shot off which hit Scarfo at the far and banked in for the lead.

In the third period the Raiders pushed back and outshot the Dutchmen 6-3, and it was the final shot that would end up tying the game up in the final minute. A shot by Trevor Cosgrove with 49 seconds remaining made its way through traffic and into the back of the net to send the game into overtime.

In the extra period Union ended up getting a power play, but was unable to get a shot on net during the five-minute span to end the contest with the 1-1 draw.

Kupsky stopped 24 of 25 shots in his sixth-consecutive start in net for the Dutchmen. Colton Point made 21 saves in his fifth tie of the season for Colgate.

Union returns to the ice tomorrow for the regular-season finale, hosting No. 2 Cornell at 7 p.m. (ET). Following the contest against the Big Red, Union will honor its 2017-18 senior class.
