HAMILTON, NY – A solid defensive effort led the Union College men's hockey team to a 3-1 comeback win against Colgate on Saturday night at the Class of 1965 Arena.

The win propels the Dutchmen past Harvard into third place in ECAC Hockey standings, improving to 16-13-1 (11-5-0 ECACH) on the season. The Raiders drop to 12-12-4 (8-7-1 ECACH) and remain in fifth place.

Colgate got on the board first scoring at the 9:52 mark of the opening period. Josh McKechney scored his second of the season to put Union in the early deficit.

The Dutchmen continued to battle despite being blanked during the first period and for the majority of the second period. It took 38 minutes for Union to get a puck past Colgate tender Colton Point, but
Anthony Rinaldi slipped one five hole while on a breakaway to get Union on the board with 1:22 remaining in the second period.

In the third period Union ended Colgate's penalty-killing streak, as
Sebastian Vidmar sniped one over the glove of Point to give Union the lead with less than eight minutes left in the game. Colgate tried to rally in the final minute with an extra attacker, but
Cole Maier scored on the empty net to secure the 3-1 win.

Junior netminder
Jake Kupsky made 24 stops on 25 shots in the contest, earning his sixth win of the season. Point made 27 saves in the losing effort.

Union went 1-for-7 on the power play, while going a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.

The Dutchmen return to Messa Rink next weekend, Feb. 9-10, to host Harvard and Dartmouth.
