CLERMONT, FL - First year
Catherine Raeter went the distance for the Dutchwomen earlier today, throwing a complete seven-inning game in her collegiate debut, to lead Union to an 8-4 victory over Benedictine University.
First year
Stuart Buxton started the day with a lead off single to help Union take an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Eagles responded swiftly, stringing a few hits together in the bottom of the second to square things up at one run apiece.
The game went quiet for the following three innings, however the Dutchwomen shook things up at the top of the fifth.
Devon Hennel provided a pinch-hit single to start off the inning, followed by a key sacrifice bunt from Makayla Koehler that advanced Hennel to second. From there,
Dana Dolinko,
Courtney Casey and
Kendall Rogoff each came up with big hits, that allowed Union to take its second lead of the day, at 4-1.
Through the remainder of the game, Casey,
Nikki Ditizio,
Carli Voellm and
Gigi Kieltyka each scored runs that pushed Union's lead to 8-1. The Eagles showed signs of life in the bottom of the seventh as they would score three runs. However, the rally would end there as Union finished with its first win of the season, 8-4 over Benedictine.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Raeter struck out two batters in her debut this afternoon.
- Voellm went 3-for-4 on the day with one RBI and one run scored.
- Senior captain Ditizio had her first hit of the season in game two of the day with a sixth inning double.
- The Dutchwomen commited no errors defensively against the Eagles.
- First year Kendall Rogoff went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

The Dutchwomen return to action tomorrow morning for back to back games in Clermont against Worcester State and Manchester University. First pitch of the day is slated for a 9 a.m. start time.
