CLERMONT, FL - The Dutchwomen (1-3) lost 9-2 to Worcester State and then fell 10-1 to Manchester in five innings on Friday morning.
Worcester State 9, Union 2
The Dutchwomen took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, thanks to a
Kim Puzo single up the middle to drive in
Stuart Buxton and
Dana Dolinko. The Lancers (2-7) later used a five-run rally in the third inning to pull away from Union, 5-2. The Dutchwomen struggled to figure out Worcester State's pitcher, Carly Zielinski, who held Union to just four hits over seven innings. The Lancers tacked on four more runs through the remaining four innings to earn their second win of the season.Â
Manchester 10, Union 1
Nikki Ditizio had a one run single in the top of the second inning, but it was not enough against Manchester. The Spartans (7-7) built a 4-0 lead in the first inning that the Dutchwomen couldn't respond to. Manchester's Laurren Ladwig hit a three run homer in the bottom of the fourth, combined with two Union defensive errors to allow the Spartans to have a five-run fourth inning and shut the game down, putting the mercy rule into effect.
