AUBURNDALE, FL – Senior captain
Jake Vesling made his season debut on the mound today as the Union College baseball team defeated Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 11-4, on Saturday afternoon.

Vesling threw eight innings against the Pointers, striking out nine batters and kept them scoreless through seven innings before conceding two runs in the eighth. Sophomore righty
Colin Nye finished off the final inning to secure the win for the Dutchmen.

Union got on the board in the bottom of the second with a two-RBI double from
Sam Kirschenbaum and a sac fly by
Nate Olson that gave the Dutchmen a 3-0 lead. A double by
Andy Labeck in the third then drove home Zach Twitchell to expand Union's lead to 4-0.

After two more scoreless innings, Union then added another run in the bottom of the sixth, thanks to a Kirschenbaum single that gave
Colin Kelly a free pass home.

Stevens Point then got on the board with two runs in the top of the eighth to end Vesling's shutout bid.

In the bottom of the inning, the Dutchmen took advantage of two errors by the Pointers to string together six runs to jump out to a commanding 11-2 lead.

Stevens Point added two more runs in the top of the ninth, but Union closed out the game with a double play to improve to a perfect 3-0 to start the season.

The Dutchmen take on Colby College tomorrow in a double header back in Auburndale, FL. The first game is set to begin at 11 a.m. (ET).
