Union drops a pair of games Saturday

CLERMONT, FL - The Union College softball team dropped a pair of games, both with a 7-3 result on Saturday, falling to D'Youville and later Thomas College.

GAME ONE:
D'Youville came out hot Saturday morning, busting open a 5-0 lead through the first four innings of play. Union's offense got rolling in the fifth, when Stuart Buxton, Courtney Casey and Kendall Rogoff went back-to-back-to-back for consecutive RBI singles to bring in three runs. Despite the burst, the Dutchwomen's rally and scoring ended there. D'Youville scored two insurance runs in the sixth to seal the 7-3 victory.

GAME TWO:
Thomas took an early 4-0 lead over the Dutch by the third inning. Senior captain Casey helped edge a comeback, bringing in Buxton off a single up the middle. First year Rogoff advanced on a fielder's choice that also helped score Dana Dolinko and bring Union within two of the Terriers to make it a 4-2 game. Thomas went on to score three more runs by the end of the game, but Union also plated an unearned run, thanks to Terrier errors in the bottom of the seventh. However, the back and forth match up would end with Thomas walking away with a 7-3 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • First year Makayla Koehler had a strong day at the plate going 3-for-4 against Thomas College.
  • Koehler's fellow classmate Rogoff also went 2-for-4 in game one of the day.
  • Union and Thomas went hit for hit, having 11 apiece during game two.
  • The Dutchwomen committed eight errors defensively today across 14 innings of play.

Union will return to action Monday morning to take on St. Olaf college at 9 a.m. in Clermont.
