CLERMONT, Fla. - The Dutchwomen dropped a pair of games Monday afternoon, falling 10-2 in six innings to St. Olaf and then being held to just four hits in a 5-0 shutout loss to No. 9 Luther College.
Game One
Union was the first team to jump on the board this morning, when
Dana Dolinko provided the RBI single to bring in
Gigi Kieltyka and advance first year
Stuart Buxton to third base, in the top of the third. That same inning, senior captain
Courtney Casey hit a long fly ball to center field that gave Buxton enough time to tag up and reach home safely. With the two run lead, the Dutchwomen headed into the bottom of the third where St. Olaf was quick to answer back with hot bats. The Oles tied up the game at 2-2- in the bottom of the third with back-to-back RBI doubles. Over the next three innings, St. Olaf would score eight more runs to put the mercy rule into effect and end the game at 10-2, after six complete innings. The Oles had 12 hits by the end of game one.
Game Two
No. 9 Luther College held the Dutchwomen to just four hits this afternoon, as the Norse won its eighth straight game and improved to 12-1 on the year. Luther's Courtney Cooper tossed the complete game shutout, fanning seven of Union's batters.
Stat of the Day:
8 - In the first eight games of her career, first year Buxton has reached base safely in all eight consecutive games. She holds the longest active streak of the 2018 season.
The Dutchwomen will return to action tomorrow to close out the PFX Spring Games with games at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Union will take on Wellesley followed by an afternoon match up with Colby College.
