Union defeats DePauw to cap off spring break trip

TAMPA, Fla. - The Union College Dutchmen improved to a 5-1 record on the year while dominating the DePauw Tigers in Tampa this afternoon with a 22-5 victory.

Union scored the game's first three goals and never trailed the Tigers. The Dutchmen held a 3-1 lead after the first period and led 9-3 at the half. Union then expanded the lead by outscoring the Tigers 13-2 in the second half.

Junior John Edmonds got the Dutch's offense started this afternoon, scoring the first goal of the day at the 8:29 mark. Edmonds would go on to score three more goals and dish two assists to have a total of six points. Senior Jordan Cooper was the unsung hero of the day, not only plating the assist on Edmonds' goal, but also providing sixth other assists throughout the game. He had the game high seven points. 

Union's trio of goalkeepers combined for 13 saves on the day. However, senior captain Sam Bebout earned the start and the win, with 12 saves and just three goals allowed in nearly 42 minutes of action. 

As a team, the Dutchmen out shot DePauw 48-28 and won 18 of 31 face offs. Union also went one-for-one on extra man opportunities. 

The Dutch return to action this weekend to kick off Liberty League conference play as they head to Potsdam, NY to take on the Clarkson Golden Knights on Saturday, March 31. Face off is slated for a noon start.
