TROY, NY – Despite scoring the first two goals, the Union College women's lacrosse team dropped a 12-9 decision to cross-town rivals RPI on Wednesday night.
Â
Hannah Rosenberger,
Julia Pfohl and
Ramsey Walsh each scored twice in the game for Union, while Emma Lowre,
Kellie Cronin and
Corey Golden each added a single goal before the end of the game.
Â
Lowrey and Pfohl scored in the first six minutes to give Union the early two-goal lead. Unfortunately, the Engineers battled back to take a 4-2 lead. The Dutchwomen would score twice before the end of the half, but so would RPI as the Engineers held onto a 6-4 lead at halftime.
Â
RPI then started the second half with four-straight goals to jump out to a 10-4 lead. However, Union did not give up and ended up out-playing RPI for the remainder of the second half. The Dutchwomen scored five goals, to RPI's two, in the final 17 minutes to bring the final score to 12-9.
Â
Union returns to Frank Bailey Field on Saturday, April 14, to host Rochester at 3 p.m. (ET).
