MIDDLEBURY, VT -- The Union College Dutchwomen dropped a pair of games in a midweek non-conference matchup with Middlebury College this afternoon, 8-0 and 10-3.
GAME ONE
The Panthers did not jump onto the scoreboard until the third inning, en route to a game one shutout over the Dutchwomen today. The two teams were in a stalemate through the first two and a half innings. In the bottom of the third, Middlebury's offense exploded, producing six runs off of six hits. By the bottom of the fifth, the Panthers managed to string together two doubles and a walk off single to score the eighth run of the game and put the mercy rule into effect. The Dutchwomen committed zero errors in game one and left five runners on base.Â
GAME TWO
Union produced four hits during game two, however it wasn't enough to stop Middlebury, who came up with 10 hits over six offensive chances. The two teams had a back and forth scoring affair through the first four innings of action.
First, the Panthers put up a three-spot in the bottom of the first, but the Dutchwomen were quick to respond.
Kim Puzo doubled down the left field line in the top of the second to score

Stuart Buxton managed to reach home on a past ball and senior captain
Courtney Casey had an RBI single to score junior
Dana Dolinko that cut Union's deficit down to four, with four innings left to play.
However, any chance of a comeback was out of reach for the Dutchwomen as Middlebury remained relentless with its bats. Middlebury's Liza Tarr hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to pull the Panthers away with a 10-3 advantage. Neither team scored during the remainder of the game, and Panther Emily Morris struck out seven Dutchwomen from the circle.Â
Union will return to the diamond on Saturday in Rochester to take on RIT. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
