Dutchwomen come from behind to earn split

ROCHESTER, NY -- After losing 2-3 in game one against the Tigers, the Union College Dutchwomen had a six run sixth inning in game two to push past RIT and win 9-8.

With today's games the Dutchwomen are 4-2 in Liberty League play.

GAME ONE
Stuart Buxton started off the rally for Union during game one, hitting an RBI triple in the top of the third to score Nikki Ditizio. That same inning, junior Dana Dolinko followed up with a ground out to second base that allowed Buxton to score and give the Dutchwomen a 2-0 lead.

Union held onto the lead until the bottom of the sixth inning. With a Rochester double and a defensive error, the Tigers managed to tie up the game at two runs apiece. RIT's Erin Guinan stood on third, and was able to score on a ground out to short. Guinan's run gave RIT its first lead of the day and was enough to secure the Tigers' win at 3-2.

GAME TWO
First year pitchers Catherine Raeter and Makayla Koehler combined for 6.2 innings of work to come from behind and defeat the Tigers, 9-8. Raeter earned the win and Koehler grabbed the save, with each pitcher throwing a pair of strikeouts.

RIT came out explosive, putting up a five spot in the bottom of the first. In the top of the second, Union was able to begin chipping away at the deficit and scored its first run of the game thanks to a Tigers' throwing error. Again, in the top of the third, Union scored a lone run to move within three runs, however RIT remained relentless and pulled away with an 8-2 lead, by the time the third inning was over.

With just two more scoring chances left to go, Union's bats exploded in the top of the sixth. First year Kendall Rogoff started the Dutchwomen off with a triple that scored senior Courtney Casey and Dolinko. Kim Puzo later homered and the Dutch trailed by just one run. Down 7-8, RIT committed an error at short to allow Raeter and Koehler to score and give Union its first lead of the day at 9-8.

The lead would be enough, as the Tigers were unable to score throughout the remainder of the game and the Dutchwomen secured their fourth conference victory of the year.

The Dutchwomen return to action tomorrow for a home double header against Ithaca College. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
