AMSTERDAM, NY – With a season-high 23 hits in the nightcap, the Union College baseball team cruised to 2-1 and 18-4 wins against St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon at Shuttleworth Park.

Union improves to 20-5 on the season with an 11-3 mark in Liberty League action. This marks the sixth-consecutive year that the Union baseball team has reached the 20-win mark.

In the first game of the day Union strung together two runs on six hits and one error. Union got on the board with a lone run from a ground out by
Sam Kirschenbaum that drove in
Jack Koch. The Saints tied the game in the fourth, but an error in the fifth allowed Kirschenbaum to score the winning run for the Dutchmen.

Jake Vesling pitched his fourth complete game of the season in game one, conceding just one earned run on six hits and three errors. He struck out seven batters en route to his fifth win of the year.

After the pitchers' battle to start the day, the offense opened up in the nightcap as Union scored 18 runs on 23 hits and two errors. St. Lawrence scored four runs on 10 hits and one error, and initially held a 3-0 lead through the first two innings.

The Dutchmen got on the board with a lone run in the third, but then piled on 15-straight runs, with four runs in the fourth, seven runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth. The Saints got one run back in the seventh, but Union put up one more in the eighth and two in the ninth to secure the doubleheader sweep.

Ryan Kuchar earned his third win of the season, throwing six innings, striking out six batters and conceding three runs on seven hits. Koch went 4-for-5 in the game with two runs and two RBI's. Vesling went 3-for-5 and had a team-best five RBI's.

Union and St. Lawrence finish the weekend series with another doubleheader tomorrow at Shuttleworth Park. First pitch is slated for noon (ET).
