Saints and Dutchmen split second

AMSTERDAM, NY – The Union College baseball team dropped an 11-9 decision before rebounding for a 15-1 win against St. Lawrence on Sunday afternoon at Shuttleworth Park.

St. Lawrence got on the board first in game one, scoring eight runs through the first two innings. The Dutchmen battled with the Saints, scoring seven runs in the same span, including six runs in the bottom of the second. However, the Saints would go on to take the 11-9 victory for their lone win of the weekend.

In game two, Union responded with 21 hits to crush the Saints 15-1 to force a split in the doubleheader. After holding a 4-1 lead through three innings, the Dutchmen put up eight in the fourth to put the game far out of reach.

Jack Koch continued his blistering hitting as he went 5-for-8 (.625) on the day, which included a home run on the first pitch the Saints threw in game one. The first year leadoff hitter for the Dutchmen has reached in all of the 23 game he's played so far this season, as he leads the Dutchmen with a .494 batting average on the year and a .576 on-base percentage.

Senior Harrison Glatt led the Dutchmen on the day, batting .750 (3-for-4) between the two games, as two of his three hits went for two bases.

Joe Ganim followed close behind with a .714 average, tying Koch and Sean Cullen with five hits on the day. Cullen was also one of the six Dutchmen batters that hit over .500 in the two games, going 5-for-8.

Sam Kirschenbaum led the team with five RBI's on the day, earning four hits in six at-bats.

Colin Kelly had two doubles and one triple as he hit .500 (4-for-8) in the doubleheader.

On the mound, Josh Garber picked up his second win of the season throwing seven innings with just one run against in the nightcap. He struck out a total of 10 batters in the process as well.

Union returns to Shuttleworth Park for a midweek game against SUNY Oneonta on Tuesday, April 24. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. (ET).
