Dutchmen top Brewers on Senior Day

SCHENECTADY, NY -- The Union College Dutchmen capped off six seniors' careers with an 11-6 victory over Vassar College on Senior Day.

The first half of play was a close battle between the two Liberty League foes, however, sophomore Kerry Lyne opened up the game unleashing four straight goals to help Union take a 7-5 lead at the half.

The Dutchmen took control in the last 30 minutes of play, outscoring Vassar 4-1, with senior goalie Sam Bebout stopping eight second-half shots on goal.

Josh Willis started Union's second half scoring tear, ripping a shot from senior Jordan Cooper to give the Dutchmen a three goal lead. At the 8:29 mark, fogo Alex Newhouse won a face off and dished a pass out to John Edmonds who netted his 19th goal of the season and gave Union a comfortable 10-5 lead heading into the final quarter of play.

With a 10-6 lead and less than three minutes to go in regulation, Cooper capped off his career on Frank Bailey Field with the final goal of the game to secure Union's 11-6 win over the Brewers.

Cooper ended the day with six points coming off two goals and four assists. Captain Bebout had 13 saves in nearly 59 minutes of work.

The men's lacrosse team honored its six seniors during today's game, Assistant Student Coach Daniel Chung, Cooper, Eric Gennari and captains Owen Reda, Sean Pensavalle and Bebout. The class has an overall career record of 40-21 and were freshmen during Union's 14-5 season in 2015, where the Dutchmen won the Liberty League and made it to the second round of the NCAA National Tournament.
