ITHACA, NY - After giving the No. 18 ranked team in the country a run for its money, the Ithaca College Bombers eventually ran away with a 13-8 victory over the Union College Dutchmen this afternoon.
Union took an early 3-0 lead thanks to
Jordan Cooper and
Charlie McGovern, and held off Ithaca's offense until nearly the 6:25 mark in the first quarter.
James Diver connected with Cooper, at the end of the first, to allow the Dutchmen to hold onto a 4-2 lead after the first 15 minutes of play. Â
On a scoring tear, the Dutch even opened up the second quarter with a hot goal from
Keaton McCann. However, Ithaca turned up the heat and scored four unanswered goals to take its first lead of the day at 6-5.
Kerry Lyne scored a man up goal, towards the end of the second, to tie the game and head into the half at 6 goals apiece.
The second half proved to be trouble for Union, as the Bombers scored five goals before eliciting any Dutchmen response. From Lyne's second quarter goal, Union did not score again until the 7:13 mark in the fourth quarter. Trailing 11-7, the Dutchmen had work to do. However, Ithaca did not let off the breaks and scored twice more before the game's conclusion.
Lyne scored again in the fourth quarter, but with just over three minutes left to play, a comeback was out of reach for the Dutchmen, who eventually lost 13-8 to the No. 18 Bombers.
