Men’s hockey adds six for 2018-19 campaign

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's hockey team will welcome six new faces to the program this season, as Lucas Breault (Toronto, Ont.), Fletcher Fineman (Lake Worth, Fla.), Blake Hayward (Vancouver, B.C.), Sam Morton (Benicia, Calif.), Michael Ryan (Marion, Mass.) and Ryan Sidorski (Williamsville, N.Y.) begin their careers at Union this fall.
 
The six newcomers join a team of 22 returners which includes nine sophomores, four juniors and nine seniors. The Dutchmen begin the 2018-19 season on Oct. 6, hosting Army West Point for at 7 p.m. (ET) game at Messa Rink.

Prior to Union: Played 24 games with the Sioux Falls Stampede before finishing the 2017-18 season with the Central Illinois Flying Aces … Recorded nine points (4g, 5a) with the Flying Aces, and six points (2g, 4a) with the Stampede … Prior to making his USHL debut, he played two seasons with the St. Michael's Buzzers of the OJHL, totaling 71 points over the two years, including a 54-point season in 2016-17 … Was named to the OJHL Second All-Rookie Team in 2016 and to the OJHL Second All-Prospect Team in 2017 … Was a member of the Toronto Young Nationals that won the 2015 Telus Cup.
 
Personal: Plans on majoring in economics.

Prior to Union: Played two seasons with the Springfield Jr. Blues … In 108 games played over two seasons, he recorded 24 points from the blue line, including a 16-point season (6g, 10a) during 2017-18 … Captained the Jr. Blues during the 2017-18 season … Earned the Jr. Blues Standard of Excellence Award in 2017-18.
 
Personal: Intends on majoring in Neuroscience and plans on entering the medical field after college … First member of his family to play hockey … Was keynote speaker at his high school graduation.
 
Blake Hayward  •  6-2  •  200  •  Forward  •  Vancouver, B.C.  •  Prince George Spruce Kings (BCHL)
Prior to Union: Played in 35 games with the Prince George Spruce Kings in 2017-18, totaling 11 goals and six assists … Also appeared in eight games for the Lincoln Stars (USHL) during the 2017-18 season … Played three seasons for the Coquitlam Express of the BCHL, logging 43 points in 107 games … Represented Team Canada West in 2015 and 2016 at the World Junior A Challenge, which included a championship at the event in 2015.
 
Personal: Undecided on a major.
 
Sam Morton  •  5-11  •  165  •  Forward  •  Benicia, Calif.  •  Wenatchee Wild (BCHL)
Prior to Union: Played two seasons with the Wenatchee Wild, logging a total of 105 points (42g, 63a) through 131 games … Helped the Wild to a Fred Page Championship (BCHL) and Doyle Cup Championship (Western Canada) in 2017-18 … Finished fifth on the Wild in scoring during the 2017-18 season with 35 goals and 44 assists.

Michael Ryan  •  5-110  •  175  •  Defenseman  •  Marion, Mass.  •  West Kelowna Warriors (BCHL)
Prior to Union: Played two seasons with the West Kelowna Warriors, totaling 75 points (20g, 55a) from the blue line in 111 games … Had 37-assists during the regular season in 2017-18 which was a team-high for the Warriors … Prior to his time in the BCHL, he played two years at Tabor Academy in Marion, Mass., during which he recorded 34 points in 59 games.
 
Personal: Plans on majoring in managerial economics and wants to pursue a career in business after college … Also played lacrosse and golf at Tabor Academy.
 
Ryan Sidorski  •  6-2  •  195  •  Defenseman  •  Williamsville, N.Y.  •  Buffalo Jr. Sabres (OJHL)
Prior to Union: Played three seasons with the Buffalo Jr. Sabres, playing in 104 games … Totaled 23 points from the blue line during his time with the Jr. Sabres, including a 13-point season in 2017-18 … Appeared in six games for the Sioux Falls Stampede (USHL) during the 2017-18 season, and recorded one assist during his USHL time.
 
Personal: Intends on majoring in biology … Also played lacrosse for three years at Williamsville South High School.
