Dutchmen dominate Keuka to usher in 2018

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Union College junior forward Salvador Lopez Jr. and senior forward Connor Horan compiled a goal and an assist each to lead the Dutchmen to a 4-1 victory over visiting Keuka, Friday evening at College Park Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Union opened the scoring just 26 seconds into the contest as sophomore midfielder Poom Mera scored from close range after Lopez Jr. had his shot blocked by a Wolves' defender.
  • Lopez Jr. scored his own goal in the 23rd minute with a curling shot from just outside the 18-yard box into the top left corner of the net. Horan then nodded home a header three minutes later to give the Dutchmen a 3-0 advantage.
  • Keuka pulled a goal back in the 43rd to make the score 3-1 before breaking for halftime.
  • The lone goal of the second half came in the 53rd minute on a sliding effort from the right side of the box by junior midfielder Yasin Dombayci to put the game out of reach.
  • Union out-shot Keuka, 20-10, including a 10-4 advantage in shots on target.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Dutchmen return to action on Saturday, Sept 1, when they play New Paltz in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. at 6 p.m. (ET).
