GENEVA, N.Y. – Despite a season-high 14 saves from sophomore
Heather Poisson, a second-half comeback came up short for the Union College field hockey team as the Dutchwomen fell to William Smith College, 5-3, in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon at McCooey Field.
Union (3-5, 0-2 Liberty League) fell behind early and could never recover against a historically strong William Smith (4-5, 1-1 Liberty League) squad. The Herons scored five times in the first 31 minutes to grab control of the game, as the home team out-shot the Dutchwomen 13-6 over the first 35 minutes.

Laura Wind got the visitors on the board in the 30th minute, but the home team got the goal back 68 seconds later to take a 5-1 lead into halftime.
Union outscored William Smith 2-0 in the second half, as Poisson turned aside all eight shots that came her way. Junior

Alexa Puleio scored the two goals for Union in the 45th and 65th minute, respectively, with assists credited to Wind and sophomore
Katie Talacci.
William Smith finished the day with a 21-12 edge in shots, with Poisson turning aside 15 shots to keep her team in the game.
Union will be back in action on Tuesday, when the team travels to Hartwick College for a non-conference match starting at 4 p.m.
