SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 match to Vassar College in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon at the Union Tennis Courts.

Union (0-2, 0-2 Liberty League) came close in four of the matches, losing either in a supertiebreaker or a second-set tiebreaker, but could not break through in any of the nine contests.

In doubles play, sophomores Megan Brown and Samantha Siegel came up just three points short in their second-doubles match against Serra Yekta and Morgane Flournoy, falling 7-4 in a tiebreaker. Junior Tal Pezzuco and senior Paige Webster also finished one break short, falling 8-5 to Tara Edwards and Frances Cornwell at the first-doubles flight.

Three of the six singles matches also could have gone Union's way as well. Sophomore Cathy Xing came closest to a victory for the Dutchwomen at fifth singles, falling 15-13 in a supertiebreaker after taking the second set by a 6-3 score. Senior Alex Greenberg also reached a supertiebreaker in her sixth singles-match after winning the second set 7-2 in a tiebreaker, but came up short in the final stanza.

Brown also ended up two points away from a supertiebreaker at second singles as well, falling 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) to Edwards.

The Dutchwomen will close out the fall portion of their schedule on Tuesday, when the team takes on Bard College in a Liberty League matchup starting at 6 p.m.
