Women's Soccer Dominates Bard, 6-0

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.— Offense shined in the first half with three unanswered goals from the Dutchwomen, as the Union College women's soccer team defeated Bard College, 4-0, at College Park Field on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Dutchwomen opened up scoring quickly, with one of Union's top goal scorers, sophomore Emma Schleimer scoring her first of the game in the 22nd minute to get Union on the board. Schleimer collected the pass from classmate Fiona Zimmerman to score and make it 1-0. The early goal ended up being the eventual game-winner over the Raptors.
  • Union capitalized just nine minutes later, with sophomore Bella Dworkin collecting Schleimer's pass to get her first goal of the game. Senior captain Linsey Giles scored just 6 minutes later to make it a 3-0 game going into halftime.
  • The hosts were still on a roll going into the second, with Schleimer scoring her second of the game to give Union a 4-0 lead. Schleimer finished the game being the game leader in shots on goal, with six.
  • Sophomore Alexa Cornacchia added to the offense, scoring the fifth goal for the Dutchwomen, off senior Julia Ferrelli's pass to make it 5-0 and continue the game strong. Ferrelli's assist on Cornacchia's goal was her first point of the season.
  • Sophomore Isabelle Riker scored her first career point, offering an assist on first-year Mollie Boone's second goal of the season to finish the game scoring with a 6-0 score.
  • The Dutchwomen outshot the Raptors on the day, 20-4. Union finished with 16 shots on goal to have plenty of offensive chances. Junior goaltender Alison Sorkenn earned her fifth shutout and seventh win of the season with the victory over the Liberty League foe.

WHAT'S NEXT:

The Dutchwomen continue conference play on the road and head to Ithaca College for a Friday afternoon conference clash. Kickoff in Ithaca, N.Y. is slated for 4 p.m. on Friday, October 18th.
