SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Defense struggled in the first half, but the Dutchmen created a good deal of offensive opportunities, but that wasn't enough, as the Union College men's soccer team lost to Hobart, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at College Park Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saturday's match was Senior Day, honoring the seven men's soccer seniors graduating with the class of 2020. The seniors honored for this year include Zachary Beyloune, Jeremy Conn, Griffin Cowles, Ben Weinstein, Salvador Lopez Jr., Harrison Wenzel, and Yasin Dombayci. This long list of seniors has accumulated several accolades, including Liberty League All-Academic Honors and ECAC Player of the Month throughout their careers.
- Hobart scored first, giving them a goal in the 21st minute of the first half. Nate Cary scored in front of the box and made it a 1-0 game in favor of the Statesmen going into halftime.
- Cary stuck again, scoring the first goal of the second half to increase the Statesmen's lead. Cary collected a pass from Cooper O'Connell to make it a 2-0 game in the 60th minute. Cary's second goal was the evantual game-winner in the conference match.
- Hobart added to their lead, courtesy of Kyle Patrick's goal in the 67th minute. Patrick's goal, from about 15 yards out, was unassisted on the play.
- Union had created a better deal of offensive opportunities in the second half, outshooting the Statesmen by an 11-5 margin, trying to get it past the Hobart goalkeeper.
- Weinstein got it in, past the Hobart goalkeeper in the last minute of the game, scoring off a penalty kick. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to secure a Dutchmen win.
- Union outshot the Statesmen by a close 14-13 margin during the game. Junior goalkeeper Trevor Krupp faced just five shots on goal during the loss.
- Union moves to 9-5-0 after today's match, and 2-4-0 in conference play. Hobart continues their season at 10-4-1.
