Dutchwomen Outlasted by #3 William Smith

GENEVA, N.Y. — Offense struggled to find their footing, and William Smith proved to be ready to fight, as the Union College women's soccer team fell to #3 William Smith, 1-0,  in Geneva, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • William Smith opened up the game's scoring, with Julia Keogh scoring off a leading pass from the midfield. She carried it into the box, slid into the left corner, and punched the ball in the lower right side of the net to give the Herons an early 1-0 lead. Keogh's goal, in the ninth minute of the game, was the eventual game-winner over the Dutchwomen.
  • The nationally-ranked Herons had the advantage in shots during the game, 24-2. Alison Sorkenn saved eight shots in the loss and kept the game close throughout.
  • With the loss, the Dutchwomen fall to 7-6-0 on the season and move to 2-4-0 in Liberty League Conference play. William Smith continues their Liberty League dominance by moving to an 11-1-1 record and remains undefeated in the conference.


WHAT'S NEXT:

The Union College women's soccer team will come back home, taking on Liberty League opponent RIT on Saturday, October 26, at College Park Field. Kickoff is scheduled for a noon start.
