SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — The Union College women's soccer team shined in the second half on Saturday afternoon, as the Dutchwomen tied, 3-3, to RIT despite outshooting the Tigers by a 18-13 tally.
RIT broke things open with a goal early on, but junior goalkeeper Alison Sorkenn make some outstanding saves, including a save off a penalty kick in the 13th minute to keep the game relatively close in the first half. Things stayed quiet until nearly the 50th minute in the second half, when RIT added to their lead to take the 2-0 advantage. Union responded in the 64th minute, with sophomore Bella Dworkin scoring off a penalty kick to deny RIT the shutout. Senior Linsey Giles and sophomore Erin O'Shea also recorded goals for the Dutchwomen, contributing to an exciting tie game.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- RIT opened up the game's scoring early on, with a goal in the fourth minute. The Tigers capitalized on a corner kick taken by Abbey Saia, and Christine Cataldo-Smith grabbed the ball up front, and scored to make it a 1-0 game.
- The Tigers came out strong in the second half, with Cataldo-Smith striking again off the counter attack. Mia White passed the ball to Cataldo-Smith, and she scored from across to increase the lead for RIT to 2-0.
- Dworkin took a penalty kick in the 64th minute, and got it past RIT goalkeeper Alyssa Salls to deny a shutout for the Tigers and make it a 2-1 game. The sophomore led all Dutchwomen players in shots during the game, with four.
- Union added to their tally in the 71st minute, with O'Shea scoring her first goal of the season off a pass from junior Emma Schleimer. Schleimer got the ball from the rebound, and passed it to O'Shea to tie the game and make it 2-2. Schleimer adds to her team-lead in points with the assist.
- Cataldo-Smith brought back the lead for the Tigers in the 82nd minute go give her a hat trick and give RIT a 3-2 lead.
- Giles scored with just two and half minutes remaining to tie the game, and bring it into OT. Giles got the ball off a pass from Schleimer, to score and make it a 3-3 game late.
- Neither team was able to score in two overtime periods, leaving the game with a 3-3 tie for both teams.
- Union had the advantage in shots during the game, 18-13. Sorkenn saved seven shots in the loss and kept the game close for Union throughout.
- With the tie, the Dutchwomen fall to 7–6-1 on the season and move to 2-4-1 in Liberty League Conference play. RIT remains in the top half of the Liberty League, moving to 10-3-2, and 5-1-1 in conference play.

The Union College women's soccer team will head back on the road one last time for the regular season, taking on Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. on Wednesday, October 30th. Kick off for the Liberty League match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
