SCHENECTADY, N.Y.— The Union College women's hockey team opens the ECAC Hockey conference play at home this weekend, facing against last year's conference tournament champions. The Dutchwomen will face the #5/6 Clarkson Golden Knights at Messa Rink on Friday, November 1.
About the Dutchwomen:
- Union last played this past Tuesday, facing in-state rival Syracuse for a single game match-up at Messa Rink.
- The Orange won the game with a 5-0 tally, getting their first win of the season in a shutout of the Dutchwomen.
- In the loss, senior goaltender Amelia Murray and first-year goaltender Bella McKee split the time in net, with McKee going in at the start of the third. The two goaltenders combined for 32 saves, and McKee allowed no goals during her tenure in the net.
- First-year players Olivia Groulx and Leah Herrfort, along with sophomore Maia Martinez led the Dutchwomen in shots during the game, with four each.
- Union split their contest against Lindenwood on October 18th and 19th, falling 3-1 on Friday and tying 2-2 on Saturday.
- The Dutchwomen scored more than one goal for the first time this season in the tied game on Saturday.
- Groulx got her first career goal and assisted in the weekend series, giving her the team-lead in points that weekend, with three. Senior forward Katelynn Russ also added to her point total this season, collecting a goal and an assist on the weekend. Senior Megan Ryan and Herrfort also collected assists during the series. With her performance, Ryan currently is the only player on the Union roster with more than one assist and leads the team with two.
About the Golden Knights:
- The Golden Knights were 1-0-1 last weekend with the Lindenwood Lions, with a 1-1 tie and a 7-0 win.
- Senior forward Elizabeth Giguere leads the ECAC Hockey conference in points and collected two goals and two assists during the Lindenwood series to add to her growing point total.
- Freshman Gabrielle David is also making an impact for the Golden Knights early, leading all ECAC rookies in points (13), goals (4), and assists (9).
- Goaltender Marie-Pier Coulombe is returning in the net from last season for Clarkson, along with Amanda Zeglen, a transfer from Ohio State. Coulombe leads the pair in saves (92), goals against average (1.69), and save percentage (.920) in her 5 games played.
The Series with Clarkson:
- Friday's meeting between Union and Clarkson is the 32nd all-time meeting between the two conference foes, with Clarkson holding the series lead at 1-31.
- The two teams last played last season on January 12, 2019, where Clarkson took a 6-0 victory here in Schenectady.
Warning, Tough Road Ahead:
- Union women's hockey opens ECAC Hockey play after the game versus Syracuse. The conference schedule opens up with Clarkson University, who was in the NCAA Frozen Four for the fourth consecutive year last season, before taking on Brown and Yale the following weekend.
