SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Sophomore Fiona Zimmerman scored her first collegiate goal in the 93rd minute as the Union College women's soccer team picked up a big Liberty League victory with a 1-0 (OT) victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday afternoon at College Park Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Union dominated for large portions of the game, taking 12 shots to RPI's six. Sophomore forward Bella Dworkin led the Dutchwomen with three shots on goal, contributing to a noticeable Union offense.
- After taking six shots in the first half and five in the second, the Dutchwomen finally ended the game on their 12th and final attempt. Senior Linsey Giles made a nice move down the left sideline and cut back toward the middle before sending a long ball through the box that was knocked in at the back post by Zimmerman, who just beat RPI keeper Joey Lyons to the ball.
- Junior goaltender Alison Sorkenn made five saves to record her fifth win and third shutout of the season.
- The Dutchwomen earn their first conference win of the season, improving to 5-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 in conference play.
WHATS NEXT:
The Dutchwomen head on the road for the final non-conference game of the season versus Babson on Wednesday, October 9 in Babson Park, Mass. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
