BABSON PARK, Mass. — First-year Emma Maley found the back of the net in the 53rd minute of the game to score her second career goal and give the Union College women's soccer team a 1-0 win over Babson College on Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Dutchwomen had the better of play in the first half outshooting the Beavers, 11-7, and creating several substantial goal-scoring opportunities. Sophomore Emma Schleimer headed a shot aimed inside the right post, but was stopped by the diving Babson goaltender in the 13th minute. Both defenses proved to be reliable, as the game was scoreless going into halftime.
- Union came into the second half ready and hungry for a goal. Sophomore Fiona Zimmerman originally shot the ball and was stopped by Babson's goalie Morgan Fedosiewich. Maley got the ball from the deflection at the penalty spot, and shot on an empty net and scored. Maley's goal was her second of her season, good enough for third on the team in goals and first among rookie goals.
- The Dutchwomen outshot the Beavers on the day, 18-17. Junior goaltender Alison Sorkenn tallied her second straight shutout with her nine saves.
- With the second straight win this season, the Dutchwomen are now 6-4 on the season and finish 5-2 in non-conference play.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The Dutchwomen come back home to College Park Field this Saturday, October 10th, to host Liberty League opponent Bard. Kickoff for the weekend game is scheduled for 2 p.m.
