Dutchwomen Shutout by Lakers, 2-0

Erie, Pa. — The Dutchwomen didn't allow any goals in the final two periods, but the Lakers capitalized early enough to get the 2-0 shutout win over the Union College women's hockey team in Erie on Saturday afternoon.

First-year goaltender Bella McKee kept the Lakers scoreless in the last forty minutes of the game by saving 23 shots in that period to keep the home team scoreless. With the loss, the Dutchwomen fall to a 2-11-2 record overall (2-3-0 ECACH).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • 12:03 1st (Mercyhurst 1-0): Sam Isbell gave the puck to team-leading scorer Emma Nuutinen, who scored top-shelf past first-year goaltender Bella McKee to get on the board first. Alexa Vasko collected the secondary assist.
  • 17:39 1st (Mercyhurst 2-0): Off an expired 5-on-3 power play, the Lakers capitalized once more to close out the first period. Emily Pinto passed the puck back and forth with Maggie Knott, and Sarah Nelles got the puck from the duo to score and make it a 2-0 game going into the first intermission.

GAME NOTES:

  • Mercyhurst outshot the Dutchwomen by a 34-15 margin.
  • First-year Leah Herrfort and sophomore Maia Martinez led the team in shots on goal, with three each.
