NEW HAVEN, Conn.— Offense couldn't find the back of the net, and the Bulldogs were all bark and bite, as the Bulldogs of Yale defeated the Union College women's hockey team, 5-0, at Ingalls Rink on Friday night.
The first period was a defensive battle, as both teams were unable to find the back of the net until the last few seconds of the period. Yale scored their first of five in the last 15 seconds of the first twenty. With the loss, the Dutchwomen fall to 0-8-1 overall this season (0-2-0 ECAC), and Yale improves its young season with a 4-1-0 overall record (2-1-0 ECAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- 19:45 1st (Yale 1-0) | Just as the first period was about to come to a close, Yale refused to go down without a fight. Elle Hartje got the puck from along the boards and passed it to Greta Skarzynski, who shot it from the middle. Grace Lee caught the rebound and scored to give Yale a 1-0 lead going into intermission.
- 5:55 2nd (Yale 2-0) | Lee wasn't done scoring after the first period, as she got the puck from Skarzynski, and put home another scrappy goal in front of the net, and through first-year goalie Bella McKee's five-hole to increase the Bulldog lead to 2-0 going into the second intermission.
- 3:59 3rd (Yale 3-0) | Hartje, Yale's top rookie, wanted a piece of the action too. Hartje got the puck at the initial face-off from Claire Dalton and buried it in. Emma Seitz collected the secondary assist on the play.
- 7:39 3rd (Yale 4-0) | Another goal off an initial power-play face-off, Seitz buried it from the point to make it 4-0. Lee passed to Saroya Tinker, who was in front and then gave the puck to Seitz, who grabbed the goal to give the Bulldogs a healthy 4-0 lead that they wouldn't relinquish.
- 14:09 3rd (Yale 5-0) | Lee put home her third goal of the game to complete the hat trick. Charlotte Welch and Rebecca Foggia were credited with the assists on the final goal of the game.
