UTICA, N.Y. – The Union College indoor track and field teams finished off their 2019 season on Saturday at the Pioneer Winter Classic, hosted by Utica College at the Hutton Sports and Recreation Dome.
The Dutchwomen finished the day with 45 points, placing the team fifth out of six squads at the event.
Freshman
Sheena Wolliston continued her solid start to the season by leading Union in the sprints. She qualified for the Liberty League Championships in the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.00 that was good for third place and six points, then followed up with a time of 8.46 seconds in the 60-meter dash that earned her sixth place.

Amanda Ashmen and senior
Dayna Young. Ashmen matched Wolliston with a third-place finish by crossing the line in 5:45.38, followed closely by Young with a time of 5:51.11 that placed her fifth overall. Ashmen also returned later in the day to grab two more points with a time of 2:37.55 in the 800 meters.
Sophomore
Steph Heiberger scored in a pair of events for Union as well. She finished the 60-meter hurdles in 10.81 seconds to place seventh, then grabbed third place in the triple jump by leaping 9.54 meters. She was joined in the triple jump by senior
Anna Browne, who placed fourth with a top leap of 9.35 meters.
Sophomore
Lindsey Podlaski earned four points in the 5,000 meters thanks to her time of 22:04.48.
A trio of freshmen also earned points for the Dutchwomen in the field events as well.
Leila Warde cleared 1.36 meters to take fifth place in the high jump, while classmates
Haley Kresch and
Denesha Lafontant made their collegiate debuts in the long jump, placing seventh and eighth, respectively.
The Dutchwomen will head home for the holiday break before returning to action on January 3 at the Wagner Invitational.
