SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Senior
Hannah Rosenberger led another well-rounded offensive effort and junior goalie
Ellie Taney made eight saves as the Union College women's lacrosse team started off Liberty League play with a 13-11 win over the Rochester Institute of Technology on a cold and rainy Friday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium.

Rosenberger had a team-leading three points to lead Union (2-1, 1-0 Liberty League), scoring twice and adding an assist. She was joined with two goals by senior
Kellie Cronin and sophomores
Isabel Bush and
Lindsay Gerrato, while senior
Julia Pfohl and freshman
Grace Heiting added a goal and an assist each as well.

Both teams put 19 shots on goal over the course of the 60 minutes, but Taney turned aside eight shots – two more than her Tiger counterparts – to provide the final margin of victory for the Dutchwomen. Union finished with a 28-22 edge in total shots over RIT (3-3, 1-2 Liberty League).

The first half was evenly played by both sides, with both teams finding the net five times and neither team leading by more than one goal at any point. Taney also made five big saves to keep the Dutchwomen in the game at the half.

Rosenberger scored Union's first two goals of the second half, with her second goal followed by tallies from Cronin and junior
Mallory Toolan to give Union a 9-6 lead with 19:05 remaining. From there on, the Dutchwomen did not allow RIT to score more than one goal in a row, with key responses from Gerrato, Heiting, senior
Emma Lowrey and junior
Corey Golden helping to keep the Tigers from mounting a comeback.

Union will return to action tomorrow, when the Dutchwomen host IWLCA #17 William Smith College in a Liberty League matchup beginning at 2 p.m. at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium.
