Union Falls to #37 Oberlin in Spring Break Finale

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Union College men's tennis team finished off its Spring Break trip with a 6-3 loss to Oberlin College, ranked 37th in the latest Oracle/ITA Div. III national rankings, on Tuesday at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Club.

Facing off against a nationally ranked foe for a second straight day, Union took one doubles match and two singles matches, but came up a little bit short against the Yeomen.

Junior David Bond and freshman Ioannis Binopoulos gritted out an 8-6 win over James Dill and Elliot Nuss at second doubles, but the Dutchmen dropped the other two doubles matches to trail headed into singles play.

Junior Justin Gold and sophomore Max Egna earned supertiebreaker victories to record two more points for Union as well. Egna overcame a first-set tiebreaker defeat to take down Nuss at fourth singles, 6-7 (8-10), 7-5, 1-0 (10-5), and Gold started strong in a 6-2, 0-6, 1-0 (10-8) win over Matthew Gittings at sixth singles.
