HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Union College women's tennis team finished up its Spring Break trip with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Oberlin College on Tuesday afternoon at the Hilton Head Beach & Tennis Club.
Senior
Paige Webster and sophomore
Megan Brown both picked up a pair of wins on the day to lead Union (3-6) to the victory.
In a switch from convention, the teams competed in singles first, which only provided more drama after both teams picked up three wins.
Senior
Alex Greenberg picked up Union's first point of the day with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at sixth singles over Hannah Keidan. Brown followed up by outlasting Francesca Kern in a second-singles supertiebreaker, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4), while Webster temporarily put the Dutchwomen ahead with a pair of 7-5 sets in her third-singles matchup.
Heading into doubles play, Brown and classmate
Cathy Xing put Union one point away from a victory with an 8-4 win at second doubles, but Oberlin won at the third flight to put all the eyes on first doubles. The match lived up to the pressure, as Webster and junior
Tal Pezzuco went to a tiebreaker and, despite falling behind early, rattled off six straight points to clinch the victory for themselves and the team.
Union will return north and get back into action next Thursday, April 4, when the team hosts Hamilton College for a non-conference match starting at 4 p.m. at the Union Tennis Courts.
