Women's Lax Picks Up Big 10-7 Win at Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior Hannah Rosenberger scored a game-high four goals and junior Ellie Taney turned aside 11 shots as the Union College women's lacrosse team outlasted the University of Rochester for a 10-7 Liberty League victory on Saturday afternoon at Fauver Stadium.

The victory keeps Union (5-5, 2-4 Liberty League) squarely in the hunt for a postseason berth, as the team sits in seventh place in the conference with four Liberty League games remaining. Rochester (5-7, 2-5 Liberty League) falls a half-game back of the Dutchwomen into 10th place.

Rosenberger led all players with her four goals and four points, scoring twice in each half to key the Dutchwoman offense. Senior Ramsey Walsh added two goals and an assist, while classmate Emma Lowrey also scored twice for the visitors.

Lowrey got the game off to a good start for Union with the first two tallies, and that was followed by one from Rosenberger to put Union up 3-0 with 14:02 remaining in the opening half. After Rochester got on the board, Rosenberg and Walsh both scored to give the visitors a 5-1 lead at the half. Taney also made six saves over the first 30 minutes to keep the Dutchwomen ahead.

The Yellow Jackets scored the first goal of the second stanza, but Union responded with the next four to take a commanding 9-2 lead. Seniors Kellie Cronin and Julia Pfohl joined Walsh and Rosenberger in scoring during the four-goal stretch, which put the visitors up by seven with 20:16 remaining.

Rosenberger gave Union a seven-goal lead again with 15:25 left on the clock, which allowed Union to weather a four-goal run for Rochester the rest of the way.

Taney added five more saves in the second half to secure the victory, as both teams attempted 27 shots on the afternoon.

The Dutchwomen return to action on Friday, when the team heads to the North Country to take on St. Lawrence University starting at 4 p.m. in Canton.
