Dutchwomen Top St. Lawrence 10-9 In Final Seconds

CANTON, N.Y. – The Union College women's lacrosse team scored four unanswered goals in the final nine minutes of play to complete a 10-9 comeback victory over St. Lawrence, Friday evening.

Sophomore Lindsay Gerrato netted five goals for the second time this campaign, while junior Ellie Taney stopped 11 shots for the second consecutive game. The game-winning tally was netted with 16 second remaining in the game, when senior Kellie Cronin scored off an assist by classmate Hannah Rosenberger to secure the Dutchwomen's fourth conference win of the season.

Union struck first as Gerrato scored five minutes into the opening half. After Saints responded with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead at the 20-minute mark, senior Ramsey Walsh netted an unassisted tally 42 seconds later to knot the game at 2-2.

Gerrato gave the Dutchwomen their second lead of the opening half with 17:18 remaining off a feed from Rosenberger, but St. Lawrence retook the lead after back-to-back goals 1:40 apart. With 11:14 left before halftime, Gerrato got her hat trick off an assist from Cronin to level the score heading into the second frame.

The Dutchwomen gained a 5-4 edge just over a minute into the second half as Gerrato converted a man-up opportunity off a feed from Cronin once again. The Saints tied the game less than two minutes later, then gained a 6-5 edge with 20:41 remaining. Sophomore Courtney Cronin tied the game for the sixth time with an unassisted goal midway through the second half.

The hosts took the largest lead of the game after netting a trio of goals in a two-minute span. Trailing 9-6, Gerrato scored her fifth goal of the game with eight minutes on the clock to keep the game within reach. Junior MK McIntire made it a one goal game 1:29 later, and classmate Mary Trop leveled the score once again with another goal with 6:33 left. Kellie Cronin scored the eventual game-winning goal with 16 seconds left off an assist by Rosenberger to take a 10-9 lead that proved insurmountable.
