ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Union College baseball team completed the weekend sweep of Bard, defeating the Raptors, 5-1 and 5-4, on Sunday at Honey Field.
The Dutchmen have now won their last six games and improve to 12-10 on the season with an 8-4 mark in Liberty League play. Bard falls to 12-16 (6-10 LL) after the doubleheader loss.
Anthony Amoroso led the Dutchmen in the two games, going 3-for-5 (.600) with two RBI's and one run.
Chris O'Brien and
Jack Myers both hit .500 on the day with three hits, while Myers had two RBI and O'Brien led the Dutchmen with three runs.
On the mound, first year
Chris Murdock recorded his first complete game and his third win of the season, keeping Bard to just one run on one hit.
Dominic Nardone earned his first win of the season in game two, pitching 6.0 innings, while
Blake Newcomer picked up his second save of the weekend, throwing 3.0 innings in relief.
In game one, Union took a 2-0 lead thanks to a two-RBI triple from
Sean Cullen in the third inning. The Raptors then recorded their lone hit and run in the fifth to bring the score to 2-1. However, Union went on to score three runs on three hits in the sixth for the 5-1 lead.
Game two saw the Dutchmen take a 2-0 lead in the fourth before extending that to a 5-0 in the seventh. Bard then scored all of its four runs in the bottom of the seventh, using three hits and one error, to bring the score within one. However, Union was able to keep the Raptors from further scoring and held on for the 5-4 win.
Union returns to the diamond next Saturday, April 19, hosting Vassar for a doubleheader at Shuttleworth Park. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. (ET).
