Union Swept By Utica

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College softball team dropped a pair of games to Utica, 11-4 in the first game, and 8-0 in the second game, Thursday from Alexander Field.

Game one: Utica 11, Union 4

Sophomore Stuart Buxton 3-4 from the plate as the Dutchwomen came up short against the Pioneers. Senior Dana Dolinko and first-year Rochelle Nuqui each had two hits and an RBI as well.

The visitors broke the deadlock in the third inning, scoring three runs to lead 3-0 heading into the fourth. Union got on the board with no outs in the bottom of the fourth when a single by junior Bailey Kross plated first-year Julia Boule. The Dutchwomen added another run later that inning off a Nuqui single.

After a three-run fifth inning by the Pioneers, Dolinko doubled down the left field line, driving in first-year Julissa Malana and made the score 6-3 after six. Utica used a five run seventh inning to take an 11-3 lead to put the game away. Sophomore Makayla Koehler drove in Kross in the bottom of the seventh to wrap up the scoring.

Game two: Utica 8, Union 0

The Dutchwomen managed only four hits as they dropped the contest 8-0. The Pioneers opened the scoring with one run in the fourth, and three runs in the fifth inning. The visitors used a four run sixth inning to secure the victory.

Union returns to action Saturday, April 20, traveling to Skidmore for a pair of games starting at 1:00 p.m. (ET).
