POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Union College women's lacrosse team dropped a 19-9 contest to Clarkson University in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon at Hantz Field.
The loss is a difficult one for Union (6-6, 3-5 Liberty League) in the race for a postseason berth, as the Dutchwomen drop into eighth place in the conference standings with two games remaining. Union will need to win its last two games and receive some help in order to get into the conference tournament.
Junior
Ellie Taney made 15 saves to keep Union in the game despite being outshot by a 42-26 margin. Senior
Hannah Rosenberger led the offense with three goals, while sophomore
Lindsay Gerrato added a goal and an assist to go with a game-high seven draw controls.
The Dutchwomen jumped out to an early lead thanks to a Rosenberger tally, then took a 2-1 advantage after Rosenberger netted her second of the game 5:45 into the contest. However, the Golden Knights scored six straight goals and nine of the next 10 to build up a 10-3 lead.
Union closed the half on a 3-1 run, getting goals from senior
Kellie Cronin, sophomore
Isabel Bush and junior
Mary Trop to get within five at 11-6 at the half.
After the teams traded goals to start the second stanza, Clarkson scored five in a row to take a 17-7 lead and the Dutchwomen could get no closer than eight the rest of the way.
Union will close out non-conference play on Tuesday afternoon with a matchup at Kean University starting at 4 p.m.
