AMSTERDAM, N.Y. -- For the second day in a row, the Union College baseball team split a doubleheader with Vassar, losing the first game 9-1, before wining the second 8-1, on Saturday afternoon at Shuttleworth Park.
The Dutchmen are nmow 14-12 (10-6 Liberty League) after the weekend series with the Brewers (13-20, 7-13 LL).
Game one saw the Brewers score nine runs on 13 hits and two errors. Union's lone run in the contest came from
Andy Labeck, who hit a home run in the top of the sixth inning. Despite recording nine hits in the contest, the solo home run would be the only time a Dutchmen would cross home plate.
Union put up two big innings in the night cap, scoring four runs in the second and three in the third, en route to the 8-1 win.
Chris Symington led the Dutchmen in the second game, going 2-for-3 (.667) with two RBI's and two runs.
Chris O'Brien and
Joe Ganim both went 2-for-4, while Ganim led the team with three RBI's.
Dominic Nardone earned his second win of the season, throing the first six innings against the Brewers, conceding just one run off six hits, while striking-out a season high nine batters.
Blake Newcomer finished off the final inning with only one hit against.
The Dutchmen hit the road for two mid-week nonconference games next week, taking on Plattsburgh State on Tuesday, April 23, and Williams on Wednesday, April 24.
