PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- The Union College baseball team suffered an 8-4 loss to Plattsburgh State on Tuesday evening at Chip Cummings Field.
The Cardinals out-hit the Dutchmen 9-6 and were propelled behind a three-run inning in the fourth. After gaining at 3-1 lead in the fourth, Plattsburgh State went on to score five more runs in the next three innings.
Union got on board first in the top of the fourth, as
Elias Kuhns stole second and caused an error by the catcher which allowed
Sean Cullen to advance home. The Dutchmen then cut their deficit to 5-3 in the sixth inning thanks to an RBI single from
Kevin Chaimowitz and an bases-loaded walk which allowed Cullen to score his second run of the game. Union's final run of the game came from a sacrafice fly by William Bellamy, allowing Kuhns to score.
Four pitchers saw the mound for Union, as
Tommy Scherrer earned his fourth start of the season.
Steve Acquario pitched 2.0 innings in relief, while
Charlie Hoover and
Andy Labeck both pitched one inning each. The Cardinals rotated eight pitchers through in the contest, with only two pitchers recording more than 1.0 inning of action.
Union continues its midweek road trip, taking on Williams tomorrow, April 24, at 4 p.m. (ET).
