Women's Lax Drops Non-Conference Finale at Kean

UNION, N.J. – Kean University scored the final two goals of the game to break a 9-9 tie and deal the Union College women's lacrosse team an 11-9 defeat in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

Union (6-7) was led by junior Mary Trop, who scored two goals and added an assist for a team-leading three points. Senior Ramsey Walsh added two goals while five other Dutchwomen scored once each as well.

Tuesday's game was made up almost entirely of two-goal runs for both teams, with only one instance of a team scoring more than two consecutive tallies. The visitors started the game with goals by sophomore Lindsay Gerrato and senior Julia Pfohl in the first minute of the contest before Kean scored two to tie the game. Union got back on top with a goal by senior Kellie Cronin with 20:04 left, then the teams went over 16 minutes before Trop scored to put the Dutchwomen up 4-2 with 3:46 remaining.

Kean scored once on either side of halftime to tie the score as part of a 5-1 run that gave the Cougars a 7-5 lead midway through the second stanza. Trop and senior Hannah Rosenberger scored to tie the game at seven before a pair of Kean goals, but the visitors continued the pattern with two in a row from sophomore Courtney Cronin and Walsh that again knotted the score with 7:51 remaining.

However, there was one more two-goal swing left in the game, and it came from Kean with 5:55 and 4:04 remaining to provide the final lead change of the day.

Union ended the game with a 28-27 edge in shots, but Kean goalie Josie Pagano made 11 saves to earn the victory. Junior Ellie Taney made eight saves on 15 on-target attempts in 52:39 of action, while freshman Jenna Paszek allowed three goals in relief as well.

The Dutchwomen head into the weekend needing a pair of wins to keep their Liberty League Tournament hopes alive, beginning on Friday at 4 p.m. with a matchup at Bard College.
