Dutchwomen Earn Pair Of Victories Over Oneonta

Video Highlights

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.
-  The Union College softball team earned a pair of victories over SUNY Oneonta, 7-1 in game one and 11-10 in five innings in the second game, Tuesday at Alexander Field.

Game one: Union 7, Oneonta 1

In her home season debut, sophomore Kendall Rogoff went a perfect 3-3 from the plate and drove in four runs to lead Union to a 7-1 win. In the circle, hurler Makayla Koehler gave up one run and eight hits in seven innings pitched to earn her fifth win of the season.

After two scoreless innings, the Red Dragons broke the deadlock with their lone run of the game and took a 1-0 lead. In response, the Dutchwomen scored a pair of runs to hold a 2-1 advantage into the fourth inning. Sophomore Stuart Buxton got the hosts on the board with a single through the right side to plate first-year Kaleigh Conte. Then, Rogoff slapped an RBI single that drove in Buxton to give Union a lead it would not relinquish.

In the fourth, Buxton drove in senior Kelsey Hartsoe from third to add to the Dutchwoman lead, and Rogoff followed up with a 2 RBI single to stretch the lead to 6-2. A Buxton walk scored Hartsoe, and another Rogoff single plated Koehler to secure a 7-1 victory.

Game two: Union 11, Oneonta 10 (5)

Senior Kim Puzo hit a grand slam in the second inning for her first homer of the season, while Rogoff plated three runs as the Dutchwomen completed the sweep over the Red Dragons, 11-10. The game was called off due to inclement weather in the bottom of the fifth inning.

For the second consecutive game, Oneonta held a lead after scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. A Rogoff single plated Buxton to get the hosts on the board. Then, Hartsoe knocked a single into left field to plate Rogoff and tie the score, 2-2, after the first.

After adding two more runs in the top of the second, Puzo launched a grand slam home run over the fence in left field to give Union a 6-4 edge.

The Red Dragons knotted the score at 6-6 in the third. In the bottom of the frame, the Dutchwomen scored five runs to take an 11-6 lead. First, senior Dana Dolinko drove in first-year Lindsey Podlaski on a bunt. With the next at bat, Rogoff hit a 2 RBI double to right center to extend the lead to 9-6. Both Hartsoe and sophomore Catie Raeter were hit by pitches with the bases loaded to drive in a run each and round out the scoring for Union.

Oneonta added three runs in the fourth and a run in the fifth to make the score 11-10 after the top of the fifth when the game was called due to weather.

The Dutchwomen return to action Thursday, April 25, hosting SUNY Cobleskill at 3:30 p.m. (ET).
