Union Scores Most Goals in 12 Years to Beat Bard

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Union College women's lacrosse team scored the most goals in a game in 12 years as the Dutchwomen kept their Liberty League Tournament hopes alive with a 22-9 win over Bard College on Friday afternoon at the Ferrari Soccer and Lacrosse Complex.

The win moves Union (7-7, 4-5 Liberty League) into a three-way tie for sixth place in the conference with RPI and RIT with one game remaining on the schedule. In order to make the conference tournament, Union will need to beat Vassar College tomorrow and also have either Rensselaer lose to St. Lawrence or RIT beat Ithaca.

Ten different players found the net for Union, whose 22 goals are the most in a single game since putting up 22 against Hartwick College on April 17, 2007.

Seniors Hannah Rosenberger and Kellie Cronin both had big games for the Dutchwomen with five points apiece, as Rosenberger led all players with five goals and Cronin added four goals and an assist. Sophomore Lindsay Gerrato also chipped in with three goals, three ground balls and a game-high 11 draw controls.

Rosenberger and Gerrato did much of the damage for Union in the opening half, combining for six of the team's 10 goals. Two Rosenberger tallies and one from Cronin gave the visitors an early 3-0 lead, followed by two from Gerrato and one each from Rosenberger and sophomore Courtney Cronin to make it a 7-1 score with 18:05 left. Bard battled back to within three at 8-5 before Cronin and senior Ramsey Walsh helped put the Dutchwomen up 10-5 at the half.

Cronin and Rosenberger scored two each early in the second half to help put the game away and allow some other players to get in the scoring. Senior Julia Pfohl and juniors M.K. McIntire and Mary Trop all scored twice in the second stanza, while senior Emma Lowrey netted her ninth of the year and freshman Grace O'Hara picked up her first collegiate goal.

Junior Ellie Taney picked up the win, making 10 saves on 17 shots over the first 48:14 of action.

The Dutchwomen will look to do their part toward keeping the season alive tomorrow, when the team celebrates their seven seniors with Senior Day before a 2 p.m. matchup with Vassar.
